Your satisfaction is important to us, and we strive to ensure you have the best experience with our platform.

Subscription Services

LawMate operates on a subscription-based model, providing access to our AI-powered legal tools and features. This refund policy outlines the terms and conditions for cancellations and refunds.

Refund Eligibility

Trial Period

If we offer a free trial period, you may cancel your subscription at any time during the trial without being charged. No refund is necessary as no payment has been processed.

Subscription Cancellations

  • Monthly Subscriptions: You may cancel your monthly subscription at any time. Upon cancellation, you will retain access to LawMate services until the end of your current billing period. No refunds will be provided for partial months.

  • Annual Subscriptions: You may request a refund for annual subscriptions within 14 days of your initial purchase or renewal. Refund requests made after 14 days will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may be subject to a prorated refund based on usage.

Refund Request Period

To be eligible for a refund, you must submit your request within 14 days of the subscription purchase or renewal date. Refund requests submitted after this period may not be honored except in extenuating circumstances at our sole discretion.

Refund Processing

Approved Refunds

Once your refund request is approved and processed:

  • Refunds will be issued to your original method of payment
  • Processing time: 5-10 business days from approval
  • The time for the refund to appear in your account depends on your payment provider's processing time
  • You will receive an email confirmation once the refund has been initiated

Denied Refunds

If your refund request is denied, we will provide you with a clear explanation of the reason. You may appeal the decision by contacting our Data Protection Officer at hi@lawmate.lk.

Non-Refundable Services

The following are non-refundable:

  • Partial subscription periods: Once a billing period has begun, charges for that period are non-refundable except as stated above
  • Add-on services or features: Any premium features or add-ons purchased separately from the base subscription
  • Usage-based charges: Any fees based on usage metrics (if applicable)
  • Promotional or discounted subscriptions: Subscriptions purchased at a promotional rate or with a discount code may have different refund terms as specified at the time of purchase

Service Issues and Technical Problems

Platform Downtime

If you experience significant service disruptions or platform downtime due to issues on our end:

  • We will extend your subscription period to compensate for the downtime
  • For extended outages exceeding 48 consecutive hours, you may request a prorated refund for the affected period

Account Termination

Voluntary Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings or by contacting our support team. Upon cancellation:

  • Your access will continue until the end of the current billing period
  • Your account data will be retained for 90 days after cancellation, after which it may be permanently deleted
  • You may reactivate your subscription within 90 days without losing your data

Termination for Violation

If we terminate your account due to violation of our Terms of Service, you will not be eligible for any refund, regardless of the remaining subscription period.

Subscription Modifications

Upgrades

If you upgrade from a lower-tier to a higher-tier subscription plan, you will be charged the prorated difference for the remainder of your current billing period.

Downgrades

If you downgrade to a lower-tier subscription plan, the change will take effect at the start of your next billing period. No refunds will be provided for the current billing period.

Force Majeure

We are not liable for refunds or service disruptions caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to:

  • Natural disasters
  • Acts of government or regulatory authorities
  • Internet service provider failures
  • Cyber attacks or security breaches affecting third-party infrastructure

Chargebacks

If you initiate a chargeback with your payment provider instead of contacting us directly for a refund:

  • Your account will be immediately suspended pending investigation
  • We reserve the right to dispute invalid chargebacks
  • Frivolous chargebacks may result in permanent account termination

We strongly encourage you to contact us first to resolve any billing disputes amicably.

Changes to This Refund Policy

We reserve the right to modify this Refund Policy at any time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of LawMate services after such modifications indicates your acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we will notify you via email.

Fair Use Policy

LawMate reserves the right to deny refunds in cases of suspected abuse or fraud, including but not limited to:

  • Repeated subscription and cancellation patterns
  • Excessive refund requests
  • Use of the platform in violation of our Terms of Service
